We acknowledge that our learning is taking place on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin Territory. We thank the Algonquin Nation for hosting us and recognize their enduring presence on this land.

Our School

Bayview Public School is an Early French Immersion Centre located in a well-established neighborhood off of McCarthy and Plante Drive, just beside Owl Park. The school is wheelchair accessible with a ramp at the main entrance. Students, staff, and parents work collaboratively to create a positive atmosphere that fosters respect, co-operation, and success. Academic excellence and French language proficiency are our major focus. In promoting a positive and safe learning environment for all our students, Bayview parents and staff truly work in partnership. The school mascot is the polar bear which embodies our school motto, “Respect, Responsibility and Resource”. In 2005, through the World Wildlife Federation, we adopted Nanuk.

Our Students

Our students come from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Our students are proud to speak two and even three languages. At last count, more than 35 languages are spoken at our school.

Upon completing grade 4, our students attend Fielding Drive Public School.

Our students work hard to develop academically and to be good citizens who care for others. They work together, showing respect and consideration for themselves, others and theenvironment.

  • “The staff is always smiling and happy to see the students.”

Our Community

The Hunt Club/Riverside Community Centre serves the area and operates a variety of recreational programs and sport leagues. Several ice rinks are maintained in the area. There are also several playing fields and ball diamonds in the community. Guides, Brownies, Sparks, Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts are active in the area as well. Bayview School is fortunate to have a very extensive parent volunteer program. Parents are actively involved in a wide range of activities including fundraising, assisting teachers in the classroom, and organizing social functions. These allow parents to interact and demonstrate their support for Bayview.

Here are some comments from our parents:

  • “Activities and education are very important to teachers and it shows in all the drawings and actions and activities of the children.”
  • “Quality Teachers + Quality School = Quality future adults.”
  • “Bayview has made our family’s introduction into the school system a wonderful and happy experience.”

We have received support in our community from parents and grand-parents who volunteer in the school, reading and working with children in the classroom, going on field trips, and helping out with the big task of our renewal of our library. OVIE (Ottawa Volunteers In Education) volunteers also provide additional supports to our students. Businesses in our community also support us - Bayview participates in the Ottawa 67’s Adopt a School program which supplies students and their families with tickets to games, and community stores regularly donates for our different events.
