Our Grade 4s were inspired by the artist Romare Bearden, an African-American artist from the Harlem Renaissance (1920s and 30s). His signature was the use of collage to showcase African-American cultural history though universal themes, such as jazz and blues music. Bearden was committed to improving the standing of African-American artists and to level the playing field.
