About Our School
Bayview Public School is an Early French Immersion Centre located in a well-established neighborhood off of McCarthy and Plante Drive, just beside Owl Park. The school is wheelchair accessible with a ramp at the main entrance.
The school mascot is the polar bear which embodies our school motto, “Respect, Responsibility and Resource”. In 2005, through the World Wildlife Federation, we adopted Nanuk.
Students, staff, and parents work collaboratively to create a positive atmosphere that fosters respect, co-operation, and success. Academic excellence and French language proficiency are our major focus. In promoting a positive and safe learning environment for all our students, Bayview parents and staff truly work in partnership.
Our Community
The Hunt Club/Riverside Community Centre serves the area and operates a variety of recreational programs and sport leagues. Several ice rinks are maintained in the area. There are also several playing fields and ball diamonds in the community. Guides, Brownies, Sparks, Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts are active in the area as well. Bayview School is fortunate to have a very extensive parent volunteer program. Parents are actively involved in a wide range of activities including fundraising, assisting teachers in the classroom, and organizing social functions. These allow parents to interact and demonstrate their support for Bayview.
We have received support in our community from parents and grand-parents who volunteer in the school, reading and working with children in the classroom, going on field trips, and helping out with the big task of our renewal of our library. OVIE (Ottawa Volunteers In Education) volunteers also provide additional supports to our students. Businesses in our community also support us - Bayview participates in the Ottawa 67’s Adopt a School program which supplies students and their families with tickets to games, and community stores regularly donates for our different events.
Academic Programs
We offer a full-day Junior and Senior Kindergarten program, and an Early French Immersion program (Grades 1 - 4).
Special Education and ESL Programs
Our Learning Support Teacher (LST) and Learning Resource Teacher (LRT) work collaboratively with classroom teachers to provide remedial support and educational assessment. We also benefit from the help of an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher who provides support to English language learners at various grade levels. She also works with her colleagues by suggesting instructional and assessment strategies to meet students’ needs.
